Originally written in a series of candid tweets, Head Buckets & Hashtags unfolds in tantalizing snippets of 140 characters or less. In turns amusing and harrowing, this gritty recounting of a childhood in the Alaskan “bush” captures Ms. Peska’s spirit of resilience as she copes with poverty, illness and abuse.

Each day at noon, for 15 days in March 2013, Ms. Peska took to Twitter and shared her story with “tweeps”. Now, in this short memoir, she’s sharing it with you!

Head Buckets Hashtags eBook Marcy Peska

Intriguing and unique story, told in a unique way, which works well as a way of telling the story of Marcy's unique childhood. The contrast between the realities of growing up in bush Alaska, with it's basic lifestyle, and the original format of Tweeting used to tell the story is perfect. It is engaging, real, honest, succinct, gritty, and deals with tough life realities that far to many have to deal with, but in a way that is not self pitying or dramatic. This memoir shares what it is like growing up in very rural Alaska, touching on harsh realities, as well as the joy and pleasure to be found as well. I am impressed with Marcy's bravery and her writing. This is a wonderful book.

Head Buckets Hashtags eBook Marcy Peska Reviews

This book gives a fascinating, realistic and honest account of early life in a particular Alaskan family. Well written and bravely presented. Started life as separate Tweets on Twitter but carries over well into a book format. Well worth a read.
Great read. I only wish it were a fully fleshed out memoir, rather than the summarized tweeted version. It definitely left me wanting to know so much more. I would love a full version in a paperback!
Another of Peska's books - though this one is unusual. She speaks about her life in Juneau, Alaska, but in 140 characters or less. I would have thought harvesting a book from a Twitter stream wholesale might have been a bit lazy, but instead the character limit makes it feel like a conversation. I could actually see this becoming a template for other Twitter users for a variety of topics if given the chance. At $0.99 it's an interesting buy.
I think the concept attracted me more than the actual content or writing. Novel way to get a story across. Glad I got it when it was free however as it's real price seems ludicrous for something so short. Took me 20 minutes to read it.
This book really interested me. It describes Marcy's traditional schooling and home schooling in a bush community in Alaska. As her housemate today, I can vouch for her, that she has earned herself a good education.
The unusual formatting of this piece (presented in its original form, as a series of 'tweets' about the author's rural Alaskan childhood) works well with the subject matter. Detailed but succinct, deeply emotional but never maudlin, this book provides a clear glimpse through the eyes of a courageous young woman coming of age in challenging circumstances. A must-read!
Fascinating story of growing up in the Alaska "bush"
It took courage to face her abuser and was relieved that her family and the court system were supportive in putting a cruel and unstable man behind bars. Kudos!!
